    Avlokan was organised as a part of 14th Open House at IIT Delhi. Avlokan is organised by Assistive Technologies Group (AssisTech) to spread awareness about various assistive technologies available for the blind and visually impaired. Various organisations were invited to be a part of this annual event. Several projects were put up by AssisTech including Refreshable Braille Displays(RBD) and Tactile Graphics .

      On 26 February 2018, Saksham organised the first ever training workshop on safe and independent mobility in the state of Sikkim. The workshop was held in collaboration with NAB Sikkim at blind school of Namchi. 40 participants attended the workshop including 28 school students and 12 special educators and O&M trainers. As part of this workshop, the participants were trained in navigating safely in different kinds of settings using SmartCane, and information was also provided to them about other assistive devices which can help them in their education and in performing their other day to day activities independently. 10 of the students were also equipped with SmartCane through national donation programme of Saksham.

        The rotary club of Manama presented 100 SmartCanes to the members of the Friendship society for the Blind in a ceremony at the society's premises in Riffa. A group of society members received the canes at the presentation which coincided with World Sight Day. "Life is not the same anymore since I started using the SmartCane. It is like a less dark then how it was before" said Ms.Khudair . Khudair , who is among those who received the first set of 25 canes would be training the new set of users on the SmartCane which she says changed her life. The club community director said the members were enthusiastic about the project. The club distributed 25 SmartCanes in April 2017 and the overwhelming response from the users inspired members to want to donate more. On behalf of entire SmartCane, would like to express our sincere gratitude towards Rotary Team for taking this wonderful initiative of providing SmartCane devices to the members of the society.

        • SmartCane distribution camp in Himachal Pradesh

          For the 4th consecutive year, a SmartCane distribution camp was organized in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on 26th and 27th July 2017. This event was held during the annual health camp, which is organized by Nagrota Bhawan Welfare Society under the leadership of Shri. G.S Bali, Honorable Minister of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, and Transport, Technical Education and Vocational and Industrial Trainingin the state. 25 persons with visual impairment from different districts of the state, most of who included school children, were provided SmartCanes and comprehensive training to enable them to use it effectively. Some of the visually challenged individuals who had received the SmartCanes during previous camps also participated in the training workshop and assisted the team in conducting training for the beneficiaries

          • Successful completion of Workshop on "Use of Digital Content for Braille and Tactile Graphics Production in Braille Presses of India"

              A training workshop on "Design and Production of Perceivable and Affordable Tactile Diagrams" was organized by the Centre of Excellence in Tactile Graphics (COETG).he objective of the intensive three- day workshop was to provide hands on experience to the tactile designers, special educators and transcribers in designing and producing tactile diagrams from the printed or digital graphics.Many special educators, teachers and students associated with various organisations participated in the workshop. Many students who are studying in mainstream schools also attended the workshop, where they learned about various softwares that are used in making science and mathematics content e.g., writing equations, accessible.                 An Awareness and training workshop on Safe and Independent mobility was organized in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by Bahiru Abbas Advertising Ltd.The organizers of the workshop created a lot of awareness about the utilities and benefits of the SmartCane device for the visually impaired community through a radio show on assistive technology aired on dotcom radio.A joint team of trainers from IIT Delhi and Saksham participated in the event.
